Personality:Prideful, haughty and seemingly full of herself, Mizuki often attempts to display a sense of confidence to those looking at her. The keyword there was ‘attempts,’ as she more often than not becomes audibly grumpy within, well, seconds of failing to do so. To those on the outside, she often tries to self-aggrandize herself, being overdramatic and propping up her achievements and accomplishments to command respect, recognition and, most importantly, establish a sense of power. All are behaviors inspired by her Garlean compatriots and Lord. In fact, it would not be far off to say her entire personality was shaped by Garlemald, not that she would ever acknowledge or admit that. She was never taught to. You see, no matter her efforts, no matter how loud she yells, or how hard she tries to deny it, there is always something pervading within her. Thoughts held back, words unspoken, and a truth held tightly to her heart. Mizuki is terrified of everything. Not just the Garleans, or the bloodshed, or the fighting. Everything. Making friends, speaking truths, being vulnerable. Any movement that she catches in the corner of her eye, any word spoken between herself and another. She can never truly tell if she’s safe, for she has never felt safe in the past twenty-four summers of her life. It’s why she props herself up, why she pretends to be so self-assured and grand. The truth is, she isn’t, and she’s scared that such a thing will bring repercussions down upon her. And she doesn’t know who will do it, who will hurt her again. The Garleans, these ‘friends’ she might make, those she might learn to care for. How can you tell what’s safe, what’s kind and what’s true when you were never taught to do so? And the worst part? She craves closeness, she craves so very many things, and most of all… she wishes to serve. For the vast majority of her life she has suffered indignities, having been beaten down and spit on, forced to starve and scramble for crumbs at the feet of others. She was taught she was different, and hated what made her so. Those damnable scales, that worthless tail, those disgusting horns of hers. Were it up to her, she’d have them all removed, yet the fuss it would cause wasn’t worth it, nor was the myriad of physical injuries such would inflict. So she hides them, she covers those scales, stills her tail and pretends those horns don’t exist. It’s better to do your best to be the same than flaunt what made you wrong, the latter gets you hurt. Her superiors taught her that rather swiftly. Subservience was a must, to live was to serve, and to serve was to gain access to all manner of luxuries. Her Lord taught her that last part, and in luxury does she drown out her woes. With a benefactor did she learn she could have so very much, the finest foods, the cutest little trinkets, and all other things denied to her by her captors. And so she pretends her jewelled trinkets are a salve to her wounds, her riches stitch her broken heart and soul together. They are her comforts, gifted to her by someone greater, someone she held so high above her that she never noticed that he was using her. Bereft of her Lord, she can’t help but wish for a new patron, even if her responsibilities and conditioning demand she stay within the confines of Garlemald, to save and serve those who despise her. That’s all she’s good for, really.Yet there is something else beneath all of that, beneath the pride and arrogance, beneath the fear and servitude, beneath all that she is and wishes to be. There is a kindness, somewhere, and she never even notices it. Too wrapped up in the suffering she’s endured and duties she must attend to, she doesn’t realize that it guides her every step. She never notices that she reaches out and extends her hand, time and time again, she doesn’t know that she goes out of her way to listen, to talk, to speak. And so it confuses her when there are those that are nice in turn. For what reason would they do such? Why give her something? Why be so kind? Why compliment or advise or… do any of it. She believes she is among the undeserving, and so Mizuki is left constantly confused. Perhaps one day she will understand, she will learn why there are those loyal to her, why there are some who seek to befriend her. And maybe, on that day, she will feel just a little bit happier. The little girl who wished to join the Theatre, who marveled at all the star had to offer, and who loved all the people around her may not truly be gone after all. All Mizuki needs to do is take the first step forwards, and maybe, just maybe, that little soul will poke her head out once more.
Hooks:Royal Retainer and Controversy
Having been appointed by Nerva yae Galvus himself, Mizuki is his personal and only retainer. Such an act caused an uproar within the noble courts of Garlemald, and was decried as a scandalous decision against sacrosanct principles. Despite this, Nerva’s royal blood allowed him to overturn the courts, allowing Mizuki to retain her status as his closest servant. The story of this event spread like a wildfire, and Mizuki herself was named in the noble circles, and even some of the common populace's eyes, as ‘Nerva’s personal lapdog’ and other… much more unpleasant names. The number of salacious yet untrue rumours and frustration over her appointment was common for many moons some summers ago, and it was revived once more as Nerva crowned her Tribunus Laticlavius of his IInd Legion, a rank typically unreachable for those of non-native birth. That was, in truth, blatant nepotism on his part.If your character is a Garlean noble or a person who enjoyed keeping up with the drama of the courts, they may have heard of her!Patriot of the Populares
Even prior to her appointment as royal retainer, Mizuki was a loud and obnoxious voice within the ‘radicals’ known as the Populares. A freethinking political group who believed in the cessation of the Empire’s expansionism and war on religion. Once she was given such a high station however, she held much more sway on the political field, and regularly engaged in trade with the neutral nation of Thavnair and the Hingan port city known as Kugane. According to the Optimates, Lord tol Socius was a ‘radical extremist’ and intensely ‘hateful of the Empire’ which she, of course, denied. Even if the latter part was true. Currently she consorts with the Alliance, striving to ensure survival for the refugees of Garlemald.Should your character also be a member of the Populares, they may have spoken with her! If not, there could be a chance that you have spotted her within Thavnair or Kugane afore during her political travels. The Ceruleum Witch
The chief duty amongst those that Mizuki was given by Lord Nerva, and by extension the noble courts, was the dealing of domestic disputes within Garlemald. Essentially, she was part of an ‘anti-Garlean’ division, and is highly specialised in finding flaws within Garlean tactics, killing imperial soldiers and dismantling Magitek. Her primary method of dispatching with dissenters was with ceruleum fire, which caused extreme environmental damage wherever she went. Her own use of ceruleum servants, projection and barriers earned her the moniker of ‘The Ceruleum Witch,’ a name which eventually began to scare potential betrayers into staying in service, if simply to not meet a fiery end. Despite this infamy, Mizuki was only ever sent onto the field a handful of times, as she was only sent on missions that called for a more destructive touch. Such situations include powerful weapons falling into the wrong hands or the needed obliteration of sensitive information. Whether or not she actually hates defectors is unknown, and there are accusations of Mizuki spriting conscripts away and outside of the Empire.Perhaps if your character defected from the Empire they feared for the ‘Ceruleum Witch’ coming after them, or perhaps your character may have heard stories of her exploits while serving. Maybe they even served within her division! Or, they could have fought against or with her during the first Garlean civil war.Daughter of the Sea
Having been born in Sui-no-Sato, Mizuki’s sudden disappearance twenty-four years ago was a heartbreaking event for the little village. Her family still lives, including her mother, father, older brother and younger sister.By now they have moved on, but perhaps your character may recall such an event if they came from her village, or, if not yet old enough to know what happened, may have heard of stories of the little girl who vanished from her home. They may or may not even realise Mizuki is the same lost girl, but it could be a connection nonetheless!
OoC: Hi there! You already know me as Mizuki, but you may have also seen me playing Iris Aetos on Excal! I’m a 20 y/o lady who is honestly doing nothing in her free time but RP. Or writing. Or just games in general. If ya ever wanna chat or discuss things with me, feel free to DM me on discord at Lavender#7592!I’m sure by now you’ve read the carrd, and as you can see I didn’t really write a bio for her! That’s because I’d rather people learned of her story more naturally, through rp or such! When it comes to RP itself I’m pretty open to moooost dark themes and topics, but I request we stay away from things like sexual abuse, it makes me extremely uncomfortable! In addition to this, please, please, please be mindful of consent, I’ve had too many situations in which people have tried to speak of or force things upon me despite me saying no, and if you do such I will immediately cease all contact with you permanently. I know that's a lil bit grim of warning but it unfortunately has to be said.Otherwise, I’d like to hope I’m pretty chill! And uh, I'm open to rp basically whenever! As a note, if ya aren’t comfy with some topics my character covers, but still wanna rp, that’s no problem! I do my best to keep outta the darker stuff in public, and will only touch on em if my rp partner is comfy with it, is okie with it AND if we’re in a more private place! So don’t worry! Thanks for checking out the carrd!(And thank you to Calico Tyata for helping make pretty much all of this!)
